Full description

Petrological and some geochemical analysis methods require the sample to be made into a thin or thick section. This record provides a series of shell cross-sectional images and also outlines the process involved in thin/thick section preparation.

This is part of a project that assesses the viability of interpretating environmental records (such as temperature, salinity and heavy metal pollution) from shell geochemistry through trace element and isotopic analysis.

Lineage

Maintenance and Update Frequency: notPlanned
Statement: See download: Thick-section preparation
Statement: Unfortunately scale bars are not provided on the sections, however users are welcome to contact Sarah directly for exact measurements. As an approximate sizing-guide the mounting slides are 25mm in width.
