Sergei Eisenstein was a pre-eminent filmmaker and theorist working in Russia during the Soviet era. He was an exponent of constructive editing, intellectual montage and the montage of attractions. Among the films he directed are Strike (1925), The Battleship Potemkin (1925), October: Ten Days That Shook the World (1927), Alexander Nevsky (1938) and Ivan The Terrible, Part I-II (1944-45).
