Brief description

SA Department for Environment and Heritage

Full description

The South Australian Heritage Council and DENR are responsible for non-Aboriginal cultural heritage of state significance, with a focus on built and maritime heritage within the context of relevant legislation. DENR also deals with natural heritage. DENR manages the South Australian Heritage Register, on behalf of the South Australian Heritage Council. The Register lists places and related objects of state significance. It also records other heritage places in South Australia (including local, national and world heritage places) that are protected under other legislation. The South Australian Heritage Register also includes archaeological heritage and significant geological, fossil and cave sites. The South Australian Department for Environment and Heritage (from July 2010 Department of Environment and Natural Resources) has newspaper articles focussing on historic built heritage in South Australia in the Heritage Branch Library. The Architecture Museum holds a duplicate set of the articles collected between 2001 and 2004.
