Full description

This record describes the CTD data collected on Investigator voyage IN2025_V01, titled: "Collaborative Australian Postgraduate Sea Training Network (CAPSTAN)." The voyage took place between March 08, 2025 and March 17, 2025 (AEST), departing from Hobart and returning to Hobart.

Data for 9 CTD deployments were acquired using the Sea-Bird Scientific SBE911 CTD unit #22 (serial number 1039), fitted with 36 twelve-litre bottles on the rosette sampler. Sea-Bird Scientific-supplied calibration factors were used to compute the pressures and preliminary conductivity values. CSIRO-supplied calibrations were applied to the temperature data. The data were subjected to automated QC to remove spikes and out-of-range values.

The following issues occurred during CTD acquisition and processing:
• No SUNA data was recorded due to an issue with the serial port on the CTD.
• CTD #001: the deployment log creator could not be run immediately after the deployment due to a software bug. The bug was fixed and the code updated on the master repository.
• CTD #003 and #004 were Yo-yo deployments where no bottles were taken.
• CTD #006: LADCP processing failed with an error. As LADCP processing is best effort, no resolution was found, and all other casts were processed with no issues.
• CTD #007: LOPC was blocking one of the serial ports needed for Seasave, and the CTD Multicaster was also blocked. The PC was restarted which resolved the issue.
• CTD #008 and #009: The Hydrochemistry team had issues with their equipment, therefore there are no oxygen values to calibrate.
The altimeter serial number and calibration date are entered incorrectly, as serial number 228403 in the .mat files (Cal Date. 26 May 2022). The correct details are shown in Table 1. This has no effect on other sensor data.

The final conductivity calibration was based on a single deployment grouping. The final calibration from the secondary sensor had a standard deviation (SD) of 0.001443 PSU, well within our target of ‘better than 0.002 PSU’. The standard product of 1-decibar binned averages were produced using data from the secondary sensors.

The dissolved oxygen data calibration fit had a SD of 0.91571μM. The agreement between the CTD and bottle data was good.
Fluorometer, PAR, transmissometer, CDOM and turbidity sensors were also installed on the auxiliary A/D channels of the CTD.

The collected data were processed (quality-controlled), and subsequently archived by the CSIRO National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) Information and Data Centre (IDC).

Additional information regarding this dataset may be contained in the Voyage Summary and the Data Processing Report.
