Rev. Herman M.R. Rupp (1872-1956) was a student at Trinity College while he studied Theology at The University of Melbourne. Later while stationed at many ministries throughout Tasmania, Victoria and NSW, he developed a passion for plants, particularly orchids. Rupp went on to become known as the "The Orchid Man" and was described as "one of the most important men in Australian orchidology". He published some 215 articles and two books on orchids. His orchid collections are mainly from NSW and were sent to the National Herbarium of NSW, while his non-orchid collections were donated to Trinity College, University of Melbourne then forwarded on to the School of Botany at the University in 1926.
