Rowville Primary School (School No. 5000) (VA 5392) opened in 1973, becoming the first primary school in Melbourne’s southeastern suburb of Rowville. Set on 23 acres, the school opened with 8 new classrooms and had an initial enrolment of approximately 250 students.In March 1974, two additional classrooms, along with an office, library, and canteen, were added to the site. By 1976, a portable classroom was added, bringing the total number of classrooms to 11.
By the late 1980s, Rowville Primary School had grown to be one of the largest in the state. Pressure on the school's enrolment was eased by the opening of nearby schools, including Park Ridge Primary School (School No. 5281), Karoo Primary School (School No. 5295) and Heany Park Primary School (School No. 5345).
In 1990, the Western Campus of Rowville Secondary College (School No. 8734) opened on the shared site with Rowville Primary School. A small drop in enrolments occurred in 1995 due to new housing developments in the Dandelion Drive area and the relocation of Lysterfield Primary School (School No. 1866). Despite this, the predicted enrolment for 1996 was around 770 students.
In 2006, two new blocks of permanent buildings were added to the school. By 2012, an outdoor synthetic sporting facility, including a running track, long jump pit, and soccer and hockey fields, was also completed. In 2018, a Landcare Biodiversity Grant enabled the creation of a "frog bog" to enhance the biodiversity of the school’s gardens, which include a variety of natural play and learning spaces.
Rowville Primary School was still in operation as at 2024.
