Full description

Establishment and Functions

The Ballarat division of the Road Construction Authority came into existence in 1983 assuming those functions previously administered by the Country Roads Board's Ballarat Division. These functions include:

the maintenance, upgrading and construction of roads
the provision of traffic signals and other traffic facilities
the setting of load limits, speed limits and other regulations

The Ballarat division of the R.C.A. carried out these functions in relation to main roads in its area.

In 1989 the Road Construction Authority ceased operation and all its functional responsibilities were inherited by the newly established Roads Corporation (VA 2982).

Further information about the functional responsibilities of the Road Construction Authority may be found in the Inventory of Series entry for VA 1054, Road Construction Authority.
