Brief description With ageing, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and tetraplegia, respiratory muscles are weak and the mechanics of the chest and lungs are altered. My research proposal and vision is to determine the contribution of impaired neural control to respiratory motor impairment with the aim to identify new targets for therapy and to trial the use of abdominal muscle stimulation to reduce respiratory morbidity and mortality in these populations.
