Brief description Heart failure affects around 23 million people worldwide. There is no cure for heart failure and current treatment options are inadequate. In contrast to the extremely limited regenerative capacity of the adult heart, we have recently discovered that the newborn heart retains a robust capacity for regeneration for a short period after birth. The current proposal will determine whether it is possible to re-activate the neonatal regenerative program in the adult heart for heart repair.
