Full description

The Department of Railways was organised into various branches, each with its own separate registry and record-keeping systems dealing with its own activities and administration. The Branches registered correspondence received from the public, other government departments, other railway branches including the Secretary's Branch. Secretary's Branch correspondence referred to other branches for action was registered in both the Secretary's Branch system (VPRS 422) and the relevant Branch system.
