Albert Rees was Head of the Chemical Physics Section, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation), Division of Industrial Chemistry 1944-1958 and Chief of the Division of Chemical Physics 1958-1978. He initiated research in electron microscopy, electron diffraction, optical spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, mass spectroscopy, solid-state physics (including studies of luminescence and fluorescence) and theoretical chemistry. He also contributed to the development of the Australian scientific instrument industry.
