Brief description We will develop a method for making blood stem cells from human pluripotent stem cells in the laboratory and expand them by creating cultures that resemble the fetal liver and bone marrow environments that the cells encounter during normal development. These blood stem cells would be beneficial for many patients with leukaemia and bone marrow failure who cannot find a matched donor. Also, this culture system will be used to understand the causes of bone marrow failure in young patients.
