Brief description Leishmaniasis is one of the six major tropical diseases identified by the WHO for intense further study. The disease affects millions of people worldwide demanding the development of improved vaccines. A prerequisite is a better understanding of the basic mechanisms of anti-parasite immunity. This proposal will employ a novel approach, intravital two-photon microscopy, to directly visualise Leishmania parasites and immune cells in the skin in order to decipher anti-Leishmania immunity.
