Brief description

This dataset contains the Raman spectrum data of vapor bubbles in plagioclase-hosted melt inclusions from the Southern Kerguelen Plateau basalts. The data were collected to study the volatile compositions of the Southern Kerguelen Plateau magma in order to investigate the volatile degassing and environmental effect of these volcanic eruptions.
Four basalt samples (KG-34, -59, -60, -61) from the Southern Kerguelen Plateau were requested from the Kochi Core Center (Japan). Doubly polished thick (100 µm) sections were made from these samples in which melt inclusions were recognized in corresponding thin sections. Raman microspectroscopy was used to detect and analyse the compositions of the vapour bubbles in unexposed melt inclusions (MIs) and gas inclusions (GIs) hosted in plagioclase. The Raman spectra were acquired with a Horiba® LabRAM HR Evolution instrument at the CSIRO laboratories in Perth (Australia), which uses a 532 nm single-frequency 100 mW diode laser and provides 12 mW at the focus point through a 100× objective. The grating used was 1800 grooves mm-1.
The dataset contains the measured Raman shift (cm-1) and intensity (a.u.) of each analysed melt inclusion (MI) or gas inclusion (GI).
