Brief description Donor deferral & screening strategies have been highly effective in reducing the risk of acquiring infections from blood/blood products in Australia. Yet every decision about deferral/screening has a range of costs, so must be weighed carefully using the best available evidence on risk & benefit. We propose to work with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to strengthen its processes for risk/benefit evaluation to support the overall framework for decision making on donor screening/eligibility
