Professor Baker is Professor of Epidemiology, School of Public Health and Social Work, Queensland University of Technology.  Before moving to QUT, he was director of Epidemiology in Queensland Health, while active in research and teaching.  Philip has a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Technology Assessment from the University of Queensland and a BSc (Hons) in Medical Anthropology from the University of Toronto, Canada. He is an author on seven Cochrane systematic reviews and is a journal editor for Cochrane Public Health.

Philip is dedicated to preventing public health problems, including reducing the risk that children start to smoke, community-wide programs to increase physical activity, and preventing elder abuse. He is currently co-supervising PhD research related to family violence and child development in Vietnam. He is active in engaging public health decision-makers to use evidence in health policy and practice. Philip is a member of the American College of Epidemiology, a Senior Fellow in the Higher Education Academy and an Executive Council Member for the Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health.
