Michael Haugh is an Associate Professor in Linguistics and International English teaching a range of second and third year courses in pragmatics, conversation analysis, intercultural communication, and sociolinguistics. His research interests are closely aligned with his teaching, which emphasises the importance of research-based learning and applying linguistic theory to real world data. He is co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pragmatics (Elsevier, Amsterdam), and on the Editorial Board of Intercultural Pragmatics and the Journal of Politeness Research (Mouton de Gruyter, Berlin). He is the author and the editor of a number of volumes, including Im/Politeness Implicatures (2015, Mouton de Gruyter), Pragmatics and the English Language (2014, Palgrave Macmillan, with Jonathan Culpeper), Understanding Politeness (2013, Cambridge University Press, with Daniel Kadar), Situated Politeness (2011, Continuum, with Bethan Davies and Andrew John Merrison), and Face, Communication and Social Interaction (2009, Equinox, with Francesca Bargiela-Chiappini).. He is also leading the establishment of the Australian National Corpus (http://www.ausnc.org.au).
