Professor Katherine Andrews

Brief description

Associate Professor Kathy Andrews obtained her PhD in Microbiology from Griffith University in 1998. She then carried out two years postdoctoral research at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) before being awarded a prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to work at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. After four years in Germany, she was recruited back to the QIMR in 2003 were she continued her independent research on malaria parasite biology and drug discovery until 2012. In 2009 Associate Professor Andrews was recruited to Griffith University’s Eskitis Institute for Drug Discovery and awarded an ARC Future Fellowship. Within the Eskitis Institute for Drug Discovery she leads the Tropical Parasitology Group with a focus on the identification and development of novel antimalarial agents and new antimalarial drug targets. Associate Professor Andrews was the Executive Officer of the Griffith Medical Research College from 2006-2009, a national Director of the Australian Society for Medical Research from 2009-2011, and an Executive Council member of the Australian Society for Parasitology from 2011-2013.
