John Anderson (1893-1962) was a Scottish-born Australian philosopher. Anderson was a highly influential educator and critic, and is associated with the development of the school of philosophy known as "Australian Realism" in the first half of the twentieth century. Described by D. M. Armstrong (Emeritus Professor of Philosophy, University of Sydney) as "the most important philosopher who has worked in Australia", John Anderson held the position of Challis Professor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney from 1927 until 1958.
