Full description
This dataset describes the distribution and abundance of phytoplankton collected during the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator research voyage IN2021_V01, titled Quantifying krill abundance for krill monitoring and management off the Australian Antarctic Territory. The voyage took place between 29 January and 24 March 2021, sailing from Hobart to Hobart as part of the 2021 TEMPO (Trends in Euphausiids off Mawson, Predators, and Oceanography) survey. The primary objective of the voyage was to estimate Antarctic krill biomass to support updates to the precautionary catch limit within CCAMLR Division 58.4.2-East and to improve understanding of krill habitat and ecosystem dynamics. As phytoplankton are a primary food source for krill, their distribution and abundance were surveyed along six north–south transects spanning 55°E to 80°E, extending from approximately 62–63°S to the sea-ice edge. Several transects overlapped with survey lines sampled during the 2006 BROKE-West voyage, enabling comparisons of ecosystem conditions over time.text: westlimit=54.9035; southlimit=-68.0025; eastlimit=147.5539; northlimit=-42.8863; projection=WGS 84 (EPSG:4326)
