Brief description
Series of 135 photographs and a 12 minute video taken of McDonald Islands on 11 August 2005. Photographs are of the west, south and east of McDonald Island. The following text was provided by members of the vessel that took the footage: We approached the island from a W/NW direction (101 degrees True). From this angle the lava flow at sea level was evident joining up both the Flat rock and the main island. These are the first lot of shots taken. We then proceeded to head around the WESTERN side of the island, then finished off taking a few shots from the SOUTHERN side of the island. From this angle we were able to get a good view of the steam from the top crater and the lava flow spit on the SOUTH EASTERN sea side was clearly visible. The vessel's position was approximately 2 nautical miles from the island in most of the photos. Please refer to the attached GPS Passage plan photo of the ship's Computer generated Sea Map Charts. This was taken in the following co-ordinates: Latitude 52.00 - 52.10 Longitude 72.30 - 72.45Issued: 2005-09-01
