P842 - High time resolution studies of giant pulses

Also known as: P842

Brief description The young and energetic pulsar that resides within the 1000 year old Crab Nebula occasionally emits radio pulses that are hundreds or even thousands of times more energetic than its regular pulses. These enigmatic "giant pulses" often challenge theories that attempt to explain the physics of pulsar emission. We will exploit the state-of-the-art instrumentation at the Parkes radio telescope and use new analysis techniques to place novel constraints on the complex physical processes that govern pulsar radio emission.
