Brief description

The O&A CTD (Conductivity Temperature Depth) data set includes data collected during the voyages of Australia's Marine National Facility, and of various CSIRO marine research vessels. CTD data typically consists of vertical profiles binned at 2 metre intervals.

The subset extracted for MARVL contains data on the continental shelf as defined by the 200 metre depth contour from the 2012 Bathymetric dataset merged (spatial union) with the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Australian Maritime Boundary dataset (http://www.ga.gov.au/metadata-gateway/metadata/record/gcat_63565) available from Geosciences Australia (GA). This subset of the data contains 2846 CTD station records from 129 voyages and includes temperature, pressure and salinity (derived) and spans from 1995 to the present.

The full data set is held in the O&A Information & Datacentre Data Warehouse, which currently holds over 14,321 CTD station records from more than 285 voyages collected since 1982. This data includes conductivity, temperature, depth and salinity (derived), and may also include any or all of oxygen, fluorescence, optical back scatter (OBS), pH and transmittance. Individual metadata records have been created for each research voyage.
