The database was consolidated in 2011 from surveys conducted by various NSW state agencies since the 1980s when the initial surveys were undertaken. Various vessels (aluminium catamaran and single-hulls, inflatables, jetskis), quad-bikes (side-by-side), survey legs and poles have been employed in the surveys with increasing data acquisition capacity and accuracy achieved with ensuing technological upgrades. Equipment, data acquisition and processing is managed by OEH Hydrographic Surveyor Stephen Holtznagel. Surveys utilise GPS positioning and prior to 2011-12 relied on GPS radio-link setups over State Survey Marks to achioeve RTK (XYZ sub-decimetre accuracy) corrections.
