Full description
North Eastern Metropolitan Psychiatric Services (commonly known as NEMPS) was formed on 19 August 1991. It took over administration of the following three mental health and psychiatric facilities: Larundel Psychiatric Hospital (VA 5082), Mont Park Hospital (VA 2846) and Plenty Hospital (VA 5091), to become an approved psychiatric hospital, under the Mental Health Act 1986.NEMPS underwent development from 1994-1995, over the following four years. It aimed to see the movement of 575 beds from the Bundoora campus to mainstream hospitals and community services across metropolitan Melbourne. This was part of the Government's redevelopment of mental health services in Victoria from a largely institutional base to a community-based service model.
NEMPS was closed on 4 February 1998, upon the revocation of the proclamation as an approved mental health service.
