Norris Inquiry into the Ownership and Control of Newspapers in Victoria

An Inquiry Committee was appointed on the 30 October 1980 under the Chairmanship of Sir John Norris to conduct the inquiry into the ownership and control of newspapers in Victoria.

Submissions were invited. The Norris Report was presented in September 1981.

Sir John Norris recommended the establishment of an independent statutory authority to scrutinise proposed newspaper acquisitions, to ensure that undue concentration of ownership would not result.
