Full description
Lidar point data, images, digital elevation models and related data collected for the Norfolk Island Water Resource Assessment project.Lineage: Lidar data was collected for CSIRO Land and Water by Landpro on 13 and 14 September 2019 covering all of Norfolk Island (including near-shore exposed rocks), Nepean Island and Phillip Island. The target point density was 16 pulses per square metre but due to the low flying altitude and non-uniform density the median density is about 30 ppsm.
Imagery was captured simultaneously and processed to 3 cm resolution. Due to privacy considerations this has been degraded to about 0.5 m resolution for Norfolk Island in this public release. The original resolution data is held by CSIRO, the Norfolk Island Regional Council and the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications.
The lidar points were classified to standard class numbers with some modifications to account for the extremely high point density produced by the sinusoidal scan pattern at the end of each scan line. Class 12 (overlap) was applied to the very dense and less reliable points within about 15 m of the end of each scan line. Class 13 (redundant points) was applied to a small fraction of the points that were in high density areas and were judged to be detrimental to the accuracy of the DEM.
Landpro produced a digital elevation model (DEM) at 0.5 m resolution and a digital surface model (DSM) at 1 m resolution. CSIRO derived additional products including pulse counts, hillshades and contours.
