The NSW Department of Education and Training has compiled this collection of 17 New South Wales School House Museums. The Armidale Museum of Education collection includes a wagon fitted out as a full scale replica of a travelling school. It also has an 1883 'beehive' school and a 6000-volume collection of early school texts and Departmental publications of National significance. Gulgong's Pioneer Museum has a diverse assortment of photos, student work samples and equipment from the many small schools once in this gold mining area. The Sydney Boy’s High School has collections of photographs, sports blazers, old uniforms, trophies documenting the early history of secondary education in NSW. The Silverton old stone school house in Broken Hill opened in 1884 with unusually high ceilings. Mt Kembla Public School established in 1859 has what may be the last package of canes delivered to a public school. Hay War Memorial High School opened in 1923 is the district's memorial to those who lost their lives in active service and has two Aleppo pines, descendants of the original lone pine from Gallipoli. The Alumy Creek School Museum is a restored weatherboard school and residence from the 1930s and contains school artefacts and memorabilia from the 1870s on. Goonoowiggal school is a heritage corrugated iron building in Inverell first opened in 1887. The Bingara Museum in Maitland is a single room timber school built in 1915 and is filled with classroom memorabilia. Old School House Museum Parramatta was designed in the 1870s by G. A. Mansfield and the school museum in Ryde from, the same period has an 1877 classroom complete with fireplace and long desks. The Calala Cottage 'beehive' school has the original desks while the Toongabbie Public School has the oldest Arbour Day tree in the state planted in 1890, the first year Arbour Day was celebrated.
