The Ambulance Service Act (No.15, 1972) established the New South Wales Ambulance Board which replaced the former Ambulance Transport Service Board. The Board consisted of ten members appointed by the Governor on the nomination of the Minister. One member was to be designated Chairman (1) The functions of the Board were to provide ambulance services; enter into arrangement or contract with other persons or organisations for the provision of ambulance services; co-operate with or assist other persons or organisations to provide ambulance services; to control direct and co-ordinate the operations of district committees and perform any other supplemental acts to enable the carrying out of its responsibilities under the Act. (2) The Board was responsible for the creation, abolition or alteration of the boundaries of a District. (3) The functions of District Committees were to give advice to the Board regarding the provision, conduct, operation and maintenance or ambulance services within the district and to exercise powers or carry out functions which the Board may delegate to them. (4) The Act authorised the appointment of officers of the Board and other employees (5) and the appointment of honorary ambulance officers. (6) The provision of unauthorised Ambulance services was prohibited by the Act. (7) The Act was proclaimed on 13 April, 1973. (8) The Ambulance Services Act (No.72, 1976) repealed the Ambulance Services Act, 1972, thereby abolishing the New South Wales Ambulance Board, and integrating ambulance services with the Health Commission of New South Wales.
