Full description Peatlands in the Australian Alps face a range of threats; however, their remoteness and fragmented distribution makes ongoing condition assessment challenging. This project will assist in the management of alpine peatlands by developing tools for the assessment of peatland condition historically and into the future. To do this, we will integrate satellite remote sensed data with on-ground hydrological and floristic data, validated using higher resolution satellite and hyperspectral drone imaging to generate condition time series across broad regional areas. These tools will be affordable, simple to use and will allow land managers to assess peatland condition as and when required. (100/100). The work directly addresses the national priority areas of ‘Soil and Water’ (new and integrated national observing systems) and ‘Environmental Change’ (predicting and measuring the impact of environmental change).
