It is the first cruise in a series of six designed to assess the distribution and abundance of krill, Euphausia superba.\n \n The FIBEX was an international programme co-ordinating the activities of 12 ships from 11 nations in the Southern Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Australia was responsible for surveying an area of the southern Indian Ocean south of 60 degrees and between 60 degrees and 90 degrees east longitude. Surveys of krill and other zooplankton were taken off Antarctica in the Australian sector (Mawson to Davis region) and Prydz Bay in January and March 1981. Species identity and abundance data were obtained. The major species investigated were Euphausia superba, Euphausia frigidia, Euphausia crystallorophias and Thysanoessa marcuria. Other pteropods and cephalopods were also studied.\n \n Physical and chemical oceanography data and phytoplankton samples were also obtained, as well as results from hydroacoustic surveys of krill biomass.\n \n Several files are available for download at the URL given below. They include excel spreadsheets on summarised data, catch compostion data and station lists. Furthermore a pdf document of the report produced from the cruise is also available for download.\n \n The fields in this dataset are:\n \n Date\n Time (GMT)\n Type of Trawl\n Species\n Weight\n Number\n Latitude\n Longitude\n Haul Number\n Towing Speed (knots)\n Water Depth (metres)\n Sea Temperature\n Target Levels\n Net Open Time\n Net Close Time\n Ice\n Station Number\n Flowmeter Reading\n Towed Distance (nautical miles)\n Catch Weight (grams)\n Fishing Start Time\n Fishing End Time\n Trajectory\n Depth Range Top\n Depth Range Bottom\n Comments&rft.creator=Australian Antarctic Division&rft.date=2023&rft.coverage=60.0,-70.0 90.0,-70.0 90.0,-60.0 60.0,-60.0 60.0,-70.0&rft.coverage=60.0,-70.0 90.0,-70.0 90.0,-60.0 60.0,-60.0 60.0,-70.0&rft.coverage=true&rft_rights=Other&rft_subject=AMD&rft_subject=AMD/AU&rft_subject=ANTABIF&rft_subject=CAML > CENSUS OF ANTARCTIC MARINE LIFE&rft_subject=CEOS&rft_subject=COML > CENSUS OF MARINE LIFE&rft_subject=Catch Weight&rft_subject=Comments&rft_subject=Date&rft_subject=Depth Range Bottom&rft_subject=Depth Range Top&rft_subject=EARTH SCIENCE > BIOLOGICAL CLASSIFICATION > ANIMAL&rft_subject=EARTH SCIENCE > BIOSPHERE > AQUATIC ECOSYSTEMS > P&rft_subject=EBA > Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic&rft_subject=FIBEX&rft_subject=Fishing End Time&rft_subject=Fishing Start Time&rft_subject=Flowmeter Reading&rft_subject=GEOGRAPHIC REGION > POLAR&rft_subject=Haul Number&rft_subject=IPY > INTERNATIONAL POLAR YEAR&rft_subject=Ice&rft_subject=Latitude&rft_subject=Longitude&rft_subject=Net Close Time&rft_subject=Net Open Time&rft_subject=Number&rft_subject=OBIS > OCEAN BIOGEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM&rft_subject=OCEAN > SOUTHERN OCEAN&rft_subject=SCAR-MARBIN > SCAR Marine Biodiversity Information&rft_subject=SHIPS&rft_subject=Sea Temperature&rft_subject=Species&rft_subject=Station Number&rft_subject=TRAWL&rft_subject=Target Levels&rft_subject=Time&rft_subject=Towed Distance&rft_subject=Towing Speed&rft_subject=Trajectory&rft_subject=Trawl&rft_subject=Water Depth&rft_subject=Weight&rft_subject=krill&rft_subject=zooplankton&rft.type=dataset&rft.language=English Access the data
