The National Union of Railwaymen of Australia formed in 1933, and was first Federally registered in 1935. It first published its official newspaper, "The Railway Advocate", in 1933. The Railway Advocate commenced in 1931, the official organ or this Union, which was registered in 1938 and existed under this name until 1982 when it became the National Union of Rail Workers of Australia.
