RESEARCH BACKGROUND
Located on the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin, ANZAC Parade, the National Emergency Services Memorial honours those who serve and have served in Australian emergency services. Its design negotiates between the history and symmetry of Anzac Parade and its memorials and the new open parkland setting for civilian memorials.

RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION
Designed by Aspect Studios Melbourne in collaboration with Charles Anderson and DCG Design, the memorial was developed through highly innovative design, modelling and manufacturing processes that had not previously been used in Australia. This innovation allowed the design team to create a much larger scaled memorial than traditional methods would have allowed. The entire memorial is made up of three ten-metre pre-cast concrete panels and exhibits no repetition of the frieze design.

RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE
The project has won several awards: in 2003 the Best Overall Project, CCAA Public Domain Awards and in 2004 the Year of the Built Environment Exemplar and the Merit Award for Design in Landscape Architecture, AILA.
