Full description
Murray Darling Basin Major River Centerline is a river centerline derived from OpenStreetMaps. This centerline is of a higher resolution than the one defined in the GeoFabric and hence was adapted for use in the Ecosystem Functions project, specifically the Longitudinal Connectivity activity.
This centerline maps out mainly major streams in the Murray Darling Basin. It is an improvement on OpenStreetMaps as the rivers have been aligned with the direction of flow. I.e. the first point in a reach will be the most upstream.
Lineage: Streamlines were extracted from OpenStreetMaps.
The lines which intersected with the GeoFabric v3 stream network were kept (more major streams only).
A DEM was then used to adjust the lines so that a flow (upstream or downstream) direction can be determined.
i.e. the most upstream point is the first point in a given line object.
The streams were then split at 1km intervals and confluences.
Each 1km interval was given an ID.
