Bruce Petty, popular and prolific Melbourne, London and Sydney based cartoonist, film-maker, animator, sculptor and printmaker gifted 70 of his original cartoon drawings to FUAM in 1969. The political cartoons cover moral and military dilemmas of the Vietnam War and were produced between 1964 and 1969 during his time at The Australian. Petty was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1929 and worked overseas from 1955 where he had work published in The New Yorker, Esquire and Punch. In Australia Petty’s cartoons have been published in the The Bulletin, Daily Mirror, The Australian, Time Magazine Australia, Herald Sun, and The Age.
