This survey of more than 200 works from MoMA’s iconic collection included major artworks by Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dalí, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and Cindy Sherman. RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION: I was researcher and scriptwriter for the tour/podcast that accompanied the exhibition. The project required two distinct components: 1. the development of a 9,000-word manuscript exploring key themes, histories and artists; and 2. the selection of audio material from MoMA’s archives including interviews with artists such as Marcel Duchamp, John Baldessari and Jeff Koons as well as statements from MoMA’s Director Glenn Lowry and chief curators. RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE: The MoMA multimedia tour provided insights into key curatorial and artistic themes as well as an insight into the history of MoMA, one of the world’s most significant museums for modern and contemporary art and design. The 70-minute podcast drew together techniques from art and design history and criticism, documentary filmmaking, scriptwriting, and radio and podcast production. The content demanded an extremely high level of art and design scholarship, with all content peer-reviewed by Miranda Wallace, NGV’s Senior Curator, International Exhibition Projects, as well as two senior MoMA curators: Juliet Kinchin, Curator of Architecture and Design, and Anne Temkin, Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture. The creative work had an audience of 11,069 through iPod devices hired onsite, with numbers significantly increased by downloads (numbers unavailable) from the NGV’s microsite, which remains as a project archive into the future. The tour was also available in Auslan and Mandarin versions.&rft.creator=Philippa Murray&rft.date=2024&rft_rights=All rights reserved&rft_subject=Not Assigned&rft.type=dataset&rft.language=English Access the data
