Researchers: Prof David Thorburn (Principal investigator)

Brief description This proposal focuses on understanding our mitochondria, the cellular powerplants we use to convert food into energy. Problems in mitochondrial energy generation are the most common inherited metabolic disorders and can be caused by mutations (changes) in over 280 different genes. I will develop new approaches to diagnosis and treatment that will enable families to access accurate genetic diagnosis, prevention and treatment and extend these outcomes to a range of other inherited disease.
