Full description
This dataset contains the following information for 47 sets of triplicate surface (0-10 cm depth) soils sampled from around the Bunger Hills in the 2023-24 season: environmental metadata, short-read metagenomic sequencing, soil physicochemical parameters, trace gas oxidation rates (H2, CO, CH4) at 4 and -20˚C, carbon fixation rates at 4˚C (under light, dark, and dark+H2 conditions, and for a limited subset only). Triplicate samples were collected from within 100 m2 of each other and treated as biological replicates throughout all experiments.Lineage

PurposeThe purpose of this work is to understand the microbial ecology of the Bunger Hills and the contributions of aerotrophy (consumption of atmospheric trace gases for microbial growth) to the wider microbial ecosystem. It also contributed to a broader, continental study to understand terrestrial Antarctic microbes.
