The Merchant Vessel Xutra Bhum is a platform of the Enhancement of Measurements on Ships of Opportunity (SOOP) facility.
The vessel is a container ship (callsign HSB3402 ), 196 m length (beam 32 m, draught - 10 m). It performed regular transects around Australian coasts up to Singapore, with use of this ship for data collection now discontinued (April 2013).
SST data are processed from the hull-contact sensor SBE48 which is located in the bow thruster room at 8.5 m depth.
