Full description The Merchant Vessel Stadacona is a platform of the Ships of Opportunity (formerly known as Enhancement of Measurements on Ships of Opportunity (SOOP)) Facility.
The vessel is a bulk carrier (callsign C6FS9), 183 m length (beam 28 m, draught - 11 m). It operates around southern (SA, VIC) and eastern coasts of Australia (NSW, QLD) sometimes extending to New Caledonia.
Bulk SST is measured by SBE48 hull contact sensor. The sensor is installed in the engine compartment and its depth is varied from 2 to 7 meters (depending on loading of vessel). SST data (along with meteorological data from ship AWS) are instantaneous, collected every 3 hours.
The data are quality controlled by the Bureau of Meteorology. The daily data files are available from the AODN shortly after 0000 UTC.
