Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) - Group Statistics Report

Brief description

Medicare provides access to medical and hospital services for all Australian residents and certain categories of visitors to Australia. The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) lists services that are subsidised by the Australian Government under Medicare.

This data provides statistics on groups of MBS services. MBS groups (ie. category, groups and subgroup) are described in the [MBS online](http://www.mbsonline.gov.au/internet/mbsonline/publishing.nsf/Content/Home).

Data is provided in the following formats:

**Excel:** The human readable data for the current year is provided in an individual excel file. Historical data (1993-2015) may be found in the excel zipped file.
**CSV:** The machine readable data for the current year is provided in an individual csv file. Historical data (1993-2015) may be found in the csv zipped file.

MBS Group Statistics Report - 2016 (YTD) excel - ** Note: ** This table is updated monthly and provides a **year to date summary to 31 July 2016**. \r\n \r\n* The figures in the report include only those services that are performed by a registered provider, for services that qualify for Medicare Benefit and for which a claim has been processed by Medicare Australia. They do not include services provided by hospital doctors to public patients in public hospitals or services that qualify for a benefit under the Department of Veterans' Affairs National Treatment Account. \r\n \r\n* State/Territory is determined according to the address (at the time of claiming) of the patient to whom the service was rendered. \r\n \r\n* Month is determined by the date the service was processed by Medicare Australia, not the date the service was provided. \r\n \r\n* The figures are made up of **total services claimed** minus **later day adjustments**. A later day adjustment is a reversal of a previously claimed service and can occur for a number of reasons. In some months the number of later day adjustments exceeds new claims for an item. In these circumstances, the total figure for the month will be negative. \r\n \r\n* Monthly figures may vary due to the varying number of processing days in a month, which depends on the number of days in the month, public holidays, overtime worked etc. \r\n \r\n* If you require statistics at a more detailed level, please contact statistics@humanservices.gov.au detailing your request.
