Brief description A major factor underpinning metabolic disorders such as obesity and diabetes is unlimited access to high-fat diets. However, not all lipids have detrimental effects on metabolic health. Diets rich in medium-chain fatty acids are associated with reduced adiposity and preserved insulin action. This project will examine the mechanisms that underlie the beneficial effects of MCFA, with focus on a novel MCFA-receptor (GPR84) as a potential therapeutic target in the treatment of metabolic disease.
