[Cite as https://purl.org/au-research/grants/nhmrc/GNT1156343]Brief description Cancer affects one in three people in their lives and a common type of chemotherapy is one that causes DNA damage. While chemotherapy can kill cells in tumors and reduce tumor size, many patients relapse and die because of treatment failure as the cancer can become resistant to chemotherapy. We have made major advances about how cells repair the DNA damage caused by chemotherapy. We are now able to search for drugs that could make traditional and cutting edge cancer treatments more effective.
