Brief description It is claimed that up to 30% of (U.S.) health care represents waste, including the use of unsafe and ineffective health care practices. While many agree the problem exists, little empirical work has been completed to test this 30% figure, particularly in Australia. We will quantify the extent of, and variability in, waste across Australian health datasets (stand-alone and linked). This project will be the first of its kind in Australia and the largest and most comprehensive internationally.
