Over five days, the researchers worked with students and academics at Viriginia Commonwealth Univesity, Qatar, to design and create full-scale semi-permanent structures, performances or other catalytic interventions. The results were on public display for two weeks. The making labs were part of the Tasmeen Doha biennial international design conference. 'Lab F Foxtrot' examined 'display' as an arresting spatial tactic and site of encounter where the accesss and engagement with an interior can be realized.RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION: Fryatt and Kemp's 1:1 installation layered scenes and encounters to allow a multiplicity of approaches that spatially re-positioned the occupant and viewer. The work proposed a new scenographic consideration fo interior design. The work further developed Fryatt's interdisciplinary, process-led practice, a practice that spans retail, branded environments, sets, installations, models and image.RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE: 'Lab F- Foxtrot' was made and exhibited alongside work of some of the world's leading interior designers, architects and artists (who were also invited participants). These included architect and designer Jeff Turko, Alex Schweder and photographer Steven Pippin, who was shortlisted for the Turner Prize (1999). Mathab hosts internationally significant exhibitions.
