Full description

The Macquarie Island Helicopter Exclusion Zone was created in January 2005 in consultation with Peter Cusick, Parks and Wildlife Service, Tasmania. The zone was created by buffering the coastline by 1 km on the seaward side of the island, generally following the escarpment on the interior of the island and buffering the refuges by 200 m to create an approximately 400 m wide corridor to the refuges.
