Brief description This research aims to develop an inexpensive and accurate method of assessing the internal conditions of water pipelines. A novel in-pipe pressure and acoustic sensor cable will be developed, along with a transient signal generator that is robust and minimally disruptive. Pressure wave reflections resulting from the induced transients will be recorded and then interpreted using new data interpretation algorithms enabling a detailed diagnosis of pipeline wall condition. Using this novel approach, water utilities can more readily integrate maintenance, replacement and rehabilitation of pipeline assets into their water management strategies, saving water and money.
