Lexton Primary School (School No. 1569; previously known as Lexton State School 1875 - 1970)

Lexton Primary School (School No. 1569) (VA 4626) was a coeducational primary school located in the township of Lexton, in western Victoria. 

The school was first proposed in 1873, and a 5-acre site was acquired early in 1875, on which a brick school building was erected. It officially opened on 1st May 1875 as Lexton State School. It replaced Lexton Common School (School No. 380), which had been opened by the Presbyterian Church in 1855 and was struck off the Department roll on 30th April 1875. 

In 1970, there was a statewide decision to change the use of the term ‘State School’ to refer to all primary, secondary and technical schools instead of just primary schools, and for all primary schools to use ‘Primary School’ in the name. Accordingly, the school name was changed to Lexton Primary School. 

Lexton Primary School was closed in 2001 following a community vote, with students travelling to schools in Waubra, Avoca and Beaufort instead. In 2008, the site was rezoned for residential development and subsequently sold by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (VA 4840).
