Following representation from the Council of the Law Institute (VA 1151) and the Victorian Bar Council, the Legal Aid Committee was established in 1963 under the provisions of the Legal Aid Act 1961 (No.6805).The Legal Aid Commission superseded the Legal Aid Committee in 1981.
