In 1860, a request for a grant of land and finance for a school building to be built in Kirkstall was lodged. In November 1861, a temporary school was opened followed by the permanent Common School opening in October 1862. The Kirkstall Common School became a state school in 1872.
A new school building was built in Aire Street, Kirkstall in 1961.
The school was closed in 1993 when enrolments dropped below 12 students.
